Our morning Enrichment program is an optional part of our Kindergarten day and provides an excellent opportunity for children to relate to their teacher in a small group setting while having wonderful lessons in literature, language arts and thematic units of study not covered during our regular school hours. The morning is very relaxed and the children especially enjoy their experiences during these two hours.
The children have time to indulge their need for creative arts. Our whole language program develops the relationship between print and illustration. The children are encouraged to create their own stories as they experience being both authors and illustrators. As the year progresses, they will begin to write independently, trying their own invented spelling.
The children have additional time to explore literature by focusing on authors such as Leo Lioni, Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, etc. They spend time on fairytales, poems, humor and an array of excellent fiction.
During our enrichment hours writing is constantly being modeled, and oral language and dramatics are encouraged, giving the children wonderful extra time for their reading development. They are also exposed to many units of study. Transportation, space, insects and animals are some of the areas the children enjoy over the course of the year.
The children are known as the “Early Birds" and the morning enrichment hours give them an additional array of developmental activities to explore their environment and excite their curiosity. It is both worthwhile and fun, and we hope every child can share part of this program during the school year.
