Hebrew Language Instruction:
SHDS strives to provide a dual-language program that supports students to become proficient in modern as well as Biblical Hebrew. We utilize a partial-immersion environment in which Hebrew language is taught in daily period of formal instruction, and is also utilized in the other subjects in our Judaic Studies curriculum. Our Hebrew program employs the proficiency methodology, so that students are able to master the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Our program is designed to accommodate learners with different modalities, backgrounds and learning styles.
At the Syracuse Hebrew Day School, we believe that an understanding of the Hebrew language is essential to our educational program. In addition, we are cognizant of the findings of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages that language learning supports academic achievement, provides cognitive benefits to students, and affects attitudes and beliefs about language learning and other cultures.
