Welcome to the Second Grade experience! One of the best parts of SHDS is the dedicated support the teachers receive from parents. It sends a clear message to your child about how important education is to your family.
Throughout the next few years you are going to see tremendous growth in your child. Not only will your child grow physically, but maturation - such as accepting responsibility, respect for others, sharing and developing a good self image, is all part of that growth. We realize the importance of these traits and will continue to reinforce them throughout the year. Positive reinforcement is an important element of the students' daily experience. Success is like a vitamin!
Providing for individual differences is the core to my teaching style. Reading and math are our main focus and are integrated with the other areas of study to enhance learning. Many exciting science and social studies units are part of the second grade program. Creative writing and spelling are also an integral part of the curriculum.
